FAQ

How do I care for my dreadlocks?
You can find Dreadlock care information here
How do you sleep with dreadlocks?
I recommend wearing a Satin Bonnet
Or using a Satin Pillowcase , whilst keeping your hair un-tied.
How often do dreadlocks need to be maintained?
This can be different for everyone.
For your first maintenance I recommend 2-3 months after installation.
From there on-
•If you’re wanting more of a tidy look or you have fast growing hair- 2-3 months
•When your dreadlocks have matured- 3-4 months
•If you prefer more of a messy/ loose hair type of look- 5-6 months
Can children have dreadlocks?
Yes.
Children can have dreadlocks. Though I will only work with a child that wants dreadlocks themselves and understands the care that goes into them.
Can you dye or bleach dreadlocks?
Yes, you can bleach and dye dreadlocks- be sure to thoroughly rinse the excess bleach/ dye from your hair otherwise it will get stuck inside your dreadlocks, causing further damage.
When bleaching always be sure to use with proper care, or go to a professional.
*Dread Craft takes no responsibility for damage caused by bleaching*
How long does my hair have to be to get dreadlocks installed?
It is recommened to have at least 3-4 inches of length, more than this is even better.
Can you wash dreadlocks?
Yes! You absolutely can, you should wash your dreadlocks on a regular basis- the cleaner the hair, the better it locks!
Washing once to twice a week is best- use a Dread Craft Shampoo for best results!
If I wanted to remove my dreadlocks, do I have to shave my hair off?
No. This is not necessary. There are options you can take here, both with possible pros and cons, depending on the person and wanted outcome.
1. You can brush them out yourself.
2. You can get a professional such as Dread Craft Wales to brush them out for you.
3. You can shave them completely off if wanted.
4. You can cut off some length and brush the rest out.
Pros and cons to both-
Cutting them off, you can keep your shorn locks safe in a zip lock bag. (Be sure they are clean and dry) and you have the option get them re-installed at a later date.
Results of this- you will have no hair but you can the dreadlocks you have always known.
Brushing them out- the dreadlocks you know will be gone but you will have the hair and length left.
If I brush out my dreadlocks, will my hair be ruined?
No, not necessarily. If your dreadlocks have been properly cared for during your journey and have had correct maintenance done to them, your hair will stay very healthy!
